The Marinemaster 300, and this Seiko SLA019J1 Prospex diver’s watch is, in my opinion, just one stop before Grand Seiko. Seiko LumiBrite is always near the top of the lume pyramid, but the Marinemaster is truly the capstone of all lume. Its bright and lasts literally all night, and the ceramic bezel is nicely lumed up to the 20 minute marker. Unless you prefer the consistency of something like tritium, the Marinemaster is unbeatable!Seiko Marinemaster 300M (models SBDX001 & SBDX017) are often compared to the Rolex Submariners, being referred to as the "Japanese" Rolex Submariner.
The MM300 is a great watch but needs a better crown threading system with a replaceable crown tube, a sapphire crystal, a ceramic bezel and screw assembly links on the bracelet. Then it might move to the top of the class, because other than that it is very very good. These early professional dive watches laid the groundwork for what the public came to expect from Seiko’s highest-end, premier divers. The SBDX001 Marinemaster 300 was the next logical step in the chain of Seiko’s pro divers, providing the clearest link to the modern watches in today’s Prospex line.
